maximize soil quality for healthier and more productive trees Take COMAND of Your Grove. ®

Get to the Root of It

With current disease pressures, especially greening, the key to sustaining a successful citrus grove lies in maintaining a healthy root system. Nutrient and water absorption occurs through the roots and a focus on building healthy soil leads to optimum root density and tree health.

COMAND® is an advanced natural soil builder that restores the soil’s life source—carbon—and boosts native microbial ecology in your soil. This in turn provides optimal conditions for fibrous roots to thrive and maintain peak health.

Dozens of citrus growers have discovered the tremendous benefits of COMAND in their groves. Read on to learn more about what COMAND can do for your trees.

What Other Citrus Growers Say ...

“We’ve used the same fertilizer program for the past two years and have gotten much better performance with the incorporation of COMAND. Our trees are flushed out and showing a dark green foliage that I haven’t seen in 5-6 years.”

“Since applying COMAND, I have not seen such a prolific root flush, even in the years before the on-set of both HLB and canker. The roots are very healthy looking, bright white in color and very fibrous, with absolutely no visible signs of damage from disease or pests.”

An Effective Tool in the Fight Against Greening

Greening (Huanglongbing or HLB) is causing high-yield loss and premature tree decline resulting in substantial economic losses to growers.

University of Florida researchers are recommending that citrus growers put an increased focus on overall soil quality and the maintenance of a grove’s root system health, in relation to other soil-borne pests, to maintain as much of a fibrous root system as possible.

There is no better material for promoting healthy roots than COMAND. With its stabilized organic matter content, it restores microbiological communities, relieves soil compaction, and improves the soils ability to absorb and store water and nutrients. Growers regularly see dramatic root flushes and improved canopy health, helping them remain productive.

The Power of Biology

Different Species of Microbes

To most people dirt is, well, dirt. But you know that healthy soil is rich in organic matter and is an extremely complex ecosystem of soil biota, fungi, and bacteria.

COMAND has a high organic matter content, is produced locally, and carries more than 7,000 different species of bacteria and fungi to help restore and promote soil ecosystem functions. The benefits for citrus growers are proving to be significant.

No More Wasting Water

Florida grove soils, particularly on the central ridge, are sandy and free draining. With such high porosity, irrigation and rain water often drains through far too quickly. COMAND provides organic matter that holds 6x its weight in water, and improves soil moisture holding capability. This is particularly beneficial in reducing irrigation requirements where water is impacted with high bicarbonates.

Negative is Positive

Many nutrients exist as cations—positively charged ions. Retaining these nutrients in the root zone requires the presence of negatively charged ions that will attract and hold these cations. The organic matter in COMAND provides these negative ions, improving the nutrient holding ability of soil through electrostatic forces. As a result, existing fertilizer programs can typically be reduced.

Buffer Soil pH

Most soil amendments designed to adjust soil pH have very simple molecules and only drive pH in one direction. But COMAND consists of large, complex and diverse compounds that provide both negatively charged attachment points and numerous hydrogen atoms. Depending on the pH of the soil in which COMAND is placed, either of these components can act as a balancing factor.
